what I've been up to lately

For the last several months, I've been working in the wedding industry as a video editor. Currently in the midst of wedding season, I've added the role of videographer, photographer, diplomat and tamer of angry brides to my growing list of jobs. This is why I haven't updated my blog very much lately.
Here is the latest upload; Jade and Erik's wedding. I'm pretty happy with it. It was a pretty happy time and the first wedding that I was the lead (and only) videographer. Everyone was nice to me. Everyone was quite drunk, except for us media types... and the only real heart stopping moment was when some well intending inebriated lady tried to focus my camera for me while I tended to my other camera.... all this happening within 5 feet of the pool.

best tattoo ever

From Schmidt & Weston blog

This isn't a sharpie drawing. This is a real tattoo.

It's a good idea to think things through before taking a paper napkin drawing to the tattoo shop.

Although I will give my friend full marks for creative thinking... and I sometimes wish I had thought of it first.

mix share swap

From Schmidt & Weston blog

Carrie is a big fan of arts and crafts. For me the term always brings back memories of summer camp and rainy days. Summer camp crafts generally took away from rock climbing or horseback riding and eased the christian counsellors ability to engage in bible talk.

Arts and crafts then were not cool.

Now, though, with the help of a rainy lazy day and some scotch, arts and crafts become quite a bit more interesting. Also, I'm not restricted by too many rules and making Jesus friendly crafts.

So I joined Carrie in her latest project; a ceedee swap started by Bianca. Got a little carried away with the whole thing and even printed the CD itself.

The deal is you make 2 mixed CDs and then mail them out. In return, you get two back from somewhere in the world.

Not sure what the next project will be... but I'm still waiting for people to send me their address for me to send free postcards. The mail strike is over in Canada... so what gives?

I'm adorable

From Schmidt & Weston blog

This is a real craigslist missed connections... and it is most certainly directed at ME.

Sometimes pretty people smile at me, or I catch someone staring... as I too have done. I never consider that it is because I'm adorable. I always imagine that I have something hanging from my nose or I've had some sort of wardrobe mishap. This time it is because I'm cute enough to be noticed and written about on Craigslist. Oh, how I dreamt of this moment in my early university days when I would scan the back of the campus newspaper in the three lines free personals section. It never happened back then. Somehow, this makes up for all of that.

Sadly for my admirer, I'm not gay and as a photographer I make eye contact with most of the people I shoot and I've been working on smiling to hide my anxiety of possibly missing that all important iconic wedding photo. Also, at least a dozen people asked how late I was working that night.

But you are right about me being adorable. C confirmed it for me. She's the best.

I promise not to let it go to my head.

Penelope

From Schmidt & Weston blog

This is my niece. Her name is Penny.

my photos in a museum

From Schmidt & Weston blog

Despite a lack of credit due to poor planning on the part of the graphic design company contracted to do the work, these are all my photos with the exception of the bottom right photos of the library - my Vancouver library photo had a less iconic angle to it.

Bigger isn't always better, but I do like to see my images in big. I used to spend hours in the darkroom pushing my little film negatives to the limit of their resolution. I am thrilled to have my photos show up legitimately in a real museum.

If you happen to be in Vancouver, you can visit this display and others at the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

Thank you for visiting. I live in Vancouver now, but I've lived in other places too. I take photos and make short films about things and people. Please comment and be argumentative. It amuses me.
